01Overview
What each part of the strip does
Five things to know before you plug it in, each with the figure that goes with it.

0112 outlets, two set 2 inches apart
The top pair is spaced for wide adapters: a laptop brick, a router power supply, a smart speaker plug. The other ten outlets run in two columns below, close enough that the strip stays 11 inches long. Put the wide plugs at the top first, and the rest of the strip stays usable.
024 USB ports, 17 W between them
Three USB-A ports give up to 2.4 A each and the USB-C port up to 3 A, all at 5 volts. Together they share 3.4 A, which is 17 watts. That is plenty for phones, earbuds, a watch and a tablet overnight. A laptop that charges over USB-C needs its own charger in one of the AC outlets.
032,700 joules on three stages
A metal oxide varistor, a gas discharge tube and a transient voltage suppressor share the work of a surge. The Protected light stays lit while that circuit is working. If the light goes out while the strip is still switched on, the surge protection is not working, and the strip should be replaced.
04A 14 AWG cord from 6 to 20 feet
Every length uses the same three-wire 14 AWG copper cord and a grounded three-prong plug, with a hook-and-loop tie for the spare length. Choose by the route the cord takes to the wall outlet, and keep it out from under rugs and out of doorways.
05One switch, two lights, two keyhole slots
The lit switch at the head turns all twelve outlets on and off and trips if the load passes 15 amps. Beside it, the Grounded light stays lit while the ground connection is working. Two keyhole slots on the back let you hang the strip under a desk or on a wall.
The strip in all 9 versions is the Alestor lineup, from $16.14 for the 6 ft cord to $34.99 for the longest, in our last update.

03Notes
Limits worth knowing
The plain list we would want before buying a strip.
- The four USB ports share 17 W. Two tablets at once charge slower than one.
- The whole strip is rated for 1,875 W (15 A at 125 V), the same as the outlet it plugs into. More outlets do not add power.
- Space heaters, refrigerators, microwaves and other major appliances go straight into a wall outlet, not onto the strip.
- Plug the strip directly into a wall outlet. Do not plug it into another strip or an extension cord.
- If the Protected light is off while the strip is switched on, the surge protection is no longer working. Replace the strip.
- No surge protector can handle a direct lightning strike.
- The strip's published rating has no clamping voltage (VPR) or response time, so neither figure appears here.
04Questions
About the Alestor 12-outlet strip
How many devices can you run from one Alestor strip?
Twelve plugs and four USB cables fit, but the limit is the load: 1,875 watts, or 15 amps, for the whole strip. A computer, two monitors, a router, a lamp and chargers come in well under that. A space heater alone can use most of it, which is one reason heaters go into the wall. See what not to plug in.
Can you mount your Alestor strip under a desk?
Yes. Two keyhole slots on the back hang the strip on two screws, under a desktop, on the side of a bench or on a wall. Hang it with the outlets facing out or down, so plugs come out straight, and keep the cord off the floor where people walk.
What happens when your Alestor strip trips?
The 15 A switch at the head cuts power to all twelve outlets when the load is too high. Unplug the device that pushed it over, usually something with a heating element, then switch the strip back on. If it trips again with ordinary loads, stop using it.
Will your Alestor strip protect your TV from lightning?
No surge protector can handle a direct lightning strike, ESFI says, and neither can this one. The 2,700-joule circuit is for the everyday surges that start inside a building or on the line. Our joules guide explains what the rating covers.
Can you plug your Alestor strip into an extension cord?
Plug it straight into a wall outlet. OSHA and the NFPA Fire Code both say a power strip is not to be plugged into an extension cord or into another strip. If the cord does not reach, the longer Alestor length is the fix, not a second cord.
